Original Elephant-Folio Sized Original Engravings on Renaissance Architecture from Paul Letarouilly's Edifices de Rome Moderne (1860)

Paul Letarouilly's masterpiece, Edifices de Rome Moderne, has been hailed as the most beautiful portolifo's on Renaissance architecture ever created. Letarouilly devoted 35 years to drawing the plans, sections, elevations, perspectives, and large-scale details of gardens, convents, palaces, and churches of Renaissance Rome. His keen observational ability and immaculate drawing skills make this work an indispensable reference and has high value for collectors. In many cases his etchings remain the only measured plans or elevations available; he also recorded buildings destroyed by later demolitions.

For over a century, these originals have been serving generations of architects at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and in American architectural offices. The compendium of plans and facades is both of historical interest to and practical application of the building needs of the expanding metropolises of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most recently, this group was on exhibit at Kansas State University in 2010 in an exhibit put together by the College of Architecture and Design, featuring these exclusively as the only components to the exhibit.

Period Paper is pleased to be able to offer such rare, extraordinary original 1860 engravings in their large format of 16 x 23+ inches. Many of which have the Letarouilly blind emboss in the actual paper stock as originally issues. While he didn't do this for each piece, it does exist in many, making them even more coveted. While we issues these all priced between $200 & $400 each, we have them priced for the holidays around $100 each, and they also qualify for current promotions.

A note about the digital images and custom shipping: The digital images shown in the site are poor due to the large size of these originals. You will see hot spots of light instead of the nice even tone that exists across these beautiful engravings. Please try to look past the uneven lighting as digital capture of oversized items is extremely difficult. Also, these are large and require shipping in a museum tube so they will be rolled, and carefully shipped to guarantee safe arrival, with all documentation. No additional charges for this shipping are incurred as we will absorb that cost.
