He, along with Picasso, developed the Cubist movement. He painted houses during the day and studied artistic painting during the evenings at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre before moving to Paris where he attended Academie Humbert. At first his style was impressionistic until he discovered and adapted to the Fauvist style. He exhibited his Fauvist work at the Salon des Independants before being influenced by Paul Cezanne. CezanneÕs work affected many of the avant-garde artists of Paris causing it to transform into Cubism. Historically important for corporate archivists, these are extremely rare to locate and are virtually unseen individually. The original lithographs were produced in only one limited edition, and included just 2,000. He worked with the Crommelynck brothers, master printers in Paris near Picasso's private studio in Cannes. This collaboration led to the remarkable output of intaglio prints created at the end of his life.

While combining different cultures, icons and periods in this series, Picasso created a unifying theme throughout: that of the narrator and observer rather than participant. The works are a panorama of compelling imagery including: circus figures, musketeers, cabelleros, musicians, and painters with their models -- many with an erotic nature. PicassoÕs command of the challenging techniques of etching, engraving, dry-point and aquatint are forcefully revealed in the 347 works, along with the highly personal and facile drawing ability he possessed in his late years.

Since its creation by Picasso more than 40 years ago, the 347 Series has garnered interest by collectors, museums, dealers and historians. PicassoÕs devotion and burst of energy into etching and engraving in the last years of his life has been equaled by no other artist. In the last decade, the works have experienced extraordinary attention amongst collectors resulting in significant increases in the prices for the original works at international auctions. Consider that Rembrandt made approximately 300 etchings in his lifetime. Picasso made 347 in seven months. It is doubtful that any artist will ever live again who will match this achievement.

The complete 347 Series is part of the permanent collection of the following museums and institutions:

Picasso Museum in Barcelona, Spain

National Library of Paris, France

Picasso Museum in Paris, France

Art Institute of Chicago

Peter Ludwig de Colonia Museum

Art Museum of Israel, Jerusalem

The Gottfried Keller Stiftung of Switzerland

For those who could not afford the originals from Picasso, we are pleased to offer these original heliogravures from the 1970 first edition portfolio. An incredibly talented man, he tried his hand at many different artistic styles throughout his life, including realism, classicism and surrealism; however he is most remembered for being a co-pioneer of cubism with French artist Georges Braque. Several specific "periods" into which his work is classified include his Blue Period, during which time he preferred to draw mothers and children in bluish and greenish hues, and his Rose Period, which featured more lively subjects such as acrobats and harlequins. He is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential 20th century artists, and is especially remembered for his portrayal of the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War in his 1937 piece, "Guernica."

P347BC70 zz3269

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1021/8371/products/P347B_045_e0051d0c-c3ac-4e48-a233-d1d8c60a489a.jpg?v=1571707470
1949-photolithograph-georges-braque-art-table-de-toilette-abstract-modern-gbl1-239363-gbl1-018
1949 Photolithograph Georges Braque Art Table de Toilette Abstract Modern GBL1
"Table de Toilette"

This is an original 1949 photolithograph of a 1942 abstract painting by Georges Braque.

CONDITION

This 65+ year old Item is rated Very Fine +++. He died in Paris and is buried in the cemetery of the Church of St. Valery in Varengevill-sur-Mer, Normandy, whose windows he designed.

GBL1C49 zz5368

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1021/8371/products/GBL1_018_cb534aa1-2f7b-416d-b823-eec473ea87b5.jpg?v=1571707471
