This is an original 1807 black and white copper engraving of a flax hand-brake that is used to break and separate the boon or core from the flax (figs. 1 and 2), a flax foot-brake (fig. 3), a beating or scrutching machine (fig. 4), a flax-heckle used to straighten the fibers of flax (fig. 5), a flax rippling comb used to separate the bolls from the flax seed (fig. 6), a flax stock and scutcher (fig. 9), and other farm implements used for dressing flax.
