1858 Hand-Painted Lithograph Saint Edward Confessor King Latin Manuscript LEC1
St. Edward the Confessor was born sometime between 1003-05. The last king of the House of Wessex, Edward ruled from 1042 to his banishment and consequent death in 1066. He is widely regarded as responsible for the disintegration of the royal power in England ushering in the Godwin family. Edward's rise to the throne was popular among the people, but dangerously unstable amongst the noble families who were looking for a new line of ascension. St. Edward proved this to be a much easier task than many had hoped as he was reputed to have spent more time studying religion and taking Norman counsel in seclusion.
