"The Children's Treat of Syllabub"

This is an original 1874 black and white double-page in-text wood engraving of a drawing by Edward Killingworth Johnson (1825-1896) that portrays a mother treating her children to the traditional English sweet dish called Syllabub, (or solybubbe, sullabub, etc). The dish is made of a mixture of milk, wine, and cider, and is then sweetened or flavored to taste.

This 139+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. Light aging throughout. Light creasing. There is light bleedthrough on this piece from the verso. Light surface rub - bottom right corner. Please note: There is printing on the verso. There is an original center crease.
