This is an original 1874 black and white in-text wood engraving of an illustration by H. Johnson that portrays troops of in the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment of Foot or "The Black Watch" of the British Army, marching through Portsmouth, England and being inspected by Prince George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904), after their return from the Third Anglo-Ashanti War that was fought between the British Empire and the Ashanti Empire for control of the Gold Coast, (now Ghana), Africa in 1873-1874 during the Victorian era.
