This is an original 1874 black and white in-text wood engraving of several illustrations by H. Johnson that depict scenes from the Third Anglo-Ashanti War that was fought between the British Empire and the Ashanti Empire in 1873-1874 for control of the Gold Coast, (now Ghana), Africa during the Victorian era. Some of the scenes include; a Fanti weaver at his loom, a common street scene, Fanti women performing a "fetish" dance ceremony, soldiers washing up on the road from Castle Prah in Inquabim, and the return of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 23rd Regiment of Foot to Portsmouth, England,
