This is an original 1874 black and white in-text wood engraving of an illustration by Samuel Edmund Waller (1850-1903) that depicts a pair of British hunters having a splendid time clubbing, skinning, and stabbing Hooded seal pups (Cystophora cristata) or "blue-backs" with poleaxes on the Arctic ice during the Victorian era.
