This is an original 1882 hand-colored lithograph by English entomologist William Forsell Kirby (1844-1912), of several species of moths from the genus Noctua, including; the Buff Arches, Habrosyne pyritoides, (Fig. 1), the Brindled Ochre, Dasypolia templi, (Fig. 2), the Pachnobia carnea, (Fig. 3), the Episema trimacula, (Fig. 4), the Clidia chamaesyces, (Fig. 5), the Morris's Wainscot, Chortodes morrisii, (Fig. 6), the False Footman or Anomalous, Stilbia anomala, (Fig. 7), the Lily Borer, Brithys crini, (also called the Crinum borer or Kew Arches, Fig. 8, a-c), the Eogena contaminei, (Fig. 9), the Raphia hybris, (Fig. 10, a-b), the Reddish Buff, Acosmetia caliginosa, (Fig. 11), and the Reed Dagger, Simyra albovenosa, (Fig. 12).
