This is an original 1882 black and white wood engraving of the Castle of Frederiksborg, also known as the Frederiksborg Palace in Hillerød, Denmark. This ancient castle was erected by King Frederick II around 1560 and was constructed for King Christian IV. Latter portions of the castle were built from 1602 to 1620 by King Christian IV, who employed Flemish architects Lorenz and Hans van Steenwinckel. Today, the historic palace is recognized as the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia; It also serves as The Museum of National History, which houses Denmark's most significant collection of historical paintings and portraits.
