This is an original 1883 black and white in-text wood engraving of "The Crossing of the Danube at Simnitza." Depicted in this late nineteenth century image is the Battle of Simnitza between the Imperial Russian military and the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. The Battle took place in present-day Veliko Tarnovo Province, Bulgaria.
