This is an original 1902 black and white halftone print of "Grave of Baron von Platen, the Promoter of the Gotha Canal." This image captures the final resting place of Baltzar von Platen, a German-born proponent of the construction of the Göta Canal, which formed the cornerstone of a 382 mile waterway linking lakes and rivers from Gothenburg to Söderköping. Platen is burried at the side of the Göta Canal in Motala.
