The Paris-Madrid Race of May 1903 was organized by the Automobile Club de France and by the Spanish Automobile Club, also known as the Autom—vil Club Espa–ol; and was an early experiment in auto racing. Over 300 drivers enrolled for the Paris-Madrid Race. The race was to span over 1307 kilometers, in three legs: Versailles Ð Bordeaux , Bordeaux Ð Vitoria and Vitoria Ð Madrid. At the time, there was a great interest in international car races in France. In 1894 the Paris Ð Rouen was the first car race in the world.
