Fredric March (1897-1975) Born Ernest Frederick McIntyre Bickel in Racine, Wis., he was a respected stage and screen actor. He won an Oscar for Best Actor twice: for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). We think that this image is actually a still from The Sign of the Cross (1932) the third film in Cecil B. DeMille's biblical trilogy, following The Ten Commandments (1923) and The King of Kings (1927).

Period Paper is pleased to offer a wonderful 1933 collection of original images from the world of film. This collection, which features some of the more unusual portraits and publicity stills of the great and (not-so-great) stars, is sure to be of interest to film buffs.
