This is an original 1937 sepia photogravure of an Austrian peasant living in the Ötztal Alps. This piece was produced by a very confused American author/adventurer wondering why the old woman was frightened of him when he asked, in flawed German, if he could take her picture. What he had actually asked was "Will you kindly allow me to shoot you?"
It was this moment that she stopped long enough to yell at him.
