This is an original 1940 halftone print of a sound locator machine made by the Sperry Corporation. The caption writes, "Ears of the air defense: Sperry Gyro makes sound locators for the U. S. Army." The Sperry Corporation was founded in 1910 as the Sperry Gyroscope Company. After several merges, it is currently a part of Unisys and Honeywell. Photography by Dmitri Kessel.
