This is an original 1940 halftone print of a sign that reads, "Tunnel to Canada," and a sign that reads, "Golden Eagle Bar Grill." The caption writes, "From the Atlantic the Lakes can be reached either by way of the Barge Canal from the Hudson to Buffalo, or by the St. Lawrence. Some thirty foreign ocean-going freighters last year entered the inland seas, many of them bringing pulpwood from Scandinavia, returning with manufactured goods." Photography by Otto Hagel.
