This is an original 1954 color print ad for Capital Airlines. This is a creative print where color is used minimally but very successfully. The red-orange which is in the woman's hat and bathing suit is the same vibrant red in the Capital Airlines logo. This is a creative way to tie the two together. The figures in this piece are also very well rendered and appear lifelike and natural. The artist did a very good job on this image.
Capital Airlines were contacted by the New York State Commission Against Discrimination because of their failure to hire Patricia Banks. She was an African American woman who met all of the job requirements to become a flight attendant. She became of of only two black flight attendants in the country.
