This is a rare original 1875 color chromolithograph that depicts some of the beautiful illuminations painted by Renaissance artist Girolamo da Cremona.

A unique feature of this illustration, which may be difficult to see in the digital image, is the use of gold ink that not only shimmers when it catches the light but also accentuates some of the finer details which might otherwise be missed.

Da Cremona, Girolamo

Italian Renaissance artist Girolamo da Cremona (flor. 1451-1483) was not only a painter, but also illuminated manuscripts and some early forms of printed books. He was most active in northern Italy, including Ferrarra and Venice.
