The caption for the top image writes, "American sailors behind breastworks guarding warehouse in Vera Cruz, Mexico, in the early part of 1914. They had been landed because of an insult to Americans for which the government refused to apologize." The bottom image shows men from the U. S. S. Michigan preparing to occupy the state.
