This is an original 1928 halftone print of Kings-Kern Divide in the Sequoia National Park. Photography by Lindley Eddy.

Seqouyah was a man known for his introduction of syllabary making reading and writing possible for the Cherokee. He was the only member of a non-literate people who independently created a writing system. He was such an inspiration to those using his writing system, that the Sequoia tree is thought to be named after him as well as a county in Oklamhoma, a research center, a mountain in the Smoky Mountain range and a long-time yacht (USS Sequoia) used by American Presidents.
