Period Paper is pleased to offer this collection of French color prints comprised of the eighteenth century work of Philibert Louis Debucourt, Jean François Janinet, and Charles Melchior Descourtis. Each artist was active during a tumultuous transitional period in France, working at the end of the Ancient French Regime through the French Revolution. Each artist was trained as a painter, but they are better known as printmakers who employed the technique of engraving, and more notably, aquatint. Their prints were characterized by a light palette and a distinctive use of color. The images contained here-in depict aristocracy, romance, and revelry at the dawn of revolution.

Each print is tipped-in within an ornate decorative border.
