Mortimer Luddington Menpes (Feb. 22, 1855 Ð April 1, 1938) was an Australian-born artist, author, printmaker and illustrator. He attended classes at the Adelaide School of Design where he did work as a photo-colorist but his formal training was at the School of Art in London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1880 and during the next 20 years he had 35 paintings shown there. He visited Japan and held an exhibition about it in London and also went to South Africa as a war artist for the Black and White magazine in 1900.
