This is an original 1910 color print of an illustration by Maria Louise Kirk (1860-1938) that portrays Pau-puk-keewis dancing during the wedding feast of Onondaga or Mohawk Indian leader Hiawatha, (Ayenwatha, Aiionwatha, Haien'wa'tha), and his Dakotah bride, Minnehaha ("Laughing Waters"), according to the epic poem entitled, "The Song of Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882).
