This is an original 1892 black and white halftone print of the "old door" of Doria Palace in Genoa, Italy. This palace has a dedication to Andrea Doria(D'oria), the condottiero (warlord) leader of the Genoese armies who returned Genoa to the people from French rule. The Roman Empire even offered him official titles, all of which he refused in favor of becoming the "perpetual censor" of the region offering advice rather than rulings.
Inscribed above the door:
SENATVS CONSVLTVS ANDREAE DE ORIA PATRIAE LIBERATORI MVNVS PVBLICVM
A public gift to Andrea Doria - liberator of our Homeland - according to the decision of the Senate.
