This is an original 1883 chromolithograph with six examples of Japanese carvings: 1.-3. three carvings representing the three heroes of Shuku --Chohi, Gentoku, and Kuanwa; 4. two warriors fighting, possibly Benkei and Ushiwaka by the bridge of Gojo at Kyoto; 5. this group represents the warrior, Benkei with the great bell of Mi-i-dera; and 6. the 10th century warrior, Tawara Toda Hidesato. These are from the collection of Herber R. Bishop of New York City.

Period Paper has obtained an exquisite collection of Japanese art prints and art plates (including color prints; halftone prints; heliogravures; and chromolithographs). This is truly a rare collection for the connoisseur of Japanese art. (Please note: many of the plates are accompanied by a page, or more, of descriptive text which will be included with the item.)
