Pabst. Pabst Brewing Company was founded in 1844 by Jacob Best and named after Best's son-in-law Frederick Pabst.

The original brewery, The Empire Brewery, was run by Jacob Best and his sons in Milwaukee, WI. In 1860, the Best sons took control of the company and started Best and Company on Chestnut Hill in Milwaukee. Three years later, Frederick Pabst bought a share of the brewery and raised the output of the Best brewery to 100,000 barrels per year.

Under the name Pabst Brewing Company the brewery won the blue ribbon in the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition for its Best Select (later Pabst Select, then Pabst Blue Ribbon or PBR) lager. PBR sales peaked in 1977 and have had a recent resurgence in the market.

The Pabst Brewing Company is now a holding company for dozens of beer and malt liquor brands and is located in Woodridge, Illinois.
