Picasso Linocut Collection — 1962 Limited Edition 472/520 Large-Format Lithographs

January 26th, 2018 — All Remaining Linocuts / Lithographs Reduced 75%!

An exceedingly rare collection and our first acquisition of the numbered, limited edition production in 1962. The portfolio holding these lithographs was 472/520 and therefore only 520 of each of these lithographs were produced. Produced and assembled, copyrighted, and registered in 1962, the numeric registration was 885 and the legal registration was 29.632 for the collection. A certificate noting the limited edition number will be included with each lithograph purchase.

An important collection of original lithographs of linoleum cuts (linocuts) by Pablo Picasso. Picasso worked in this medium extensively from 1958 to 1961. These lithographs were created for numbered limited edition in 1962 on heavy stock with incredibly rich colors. The Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris loaned Picasso's original linocuts for the creation of these lithographs. During this production, an additional 50 lithographs were created in large format and were hand-signed by Picasso and which can be found online priced between $26,000 and $180,000 per linocut. Only a rare few of these smaller lithographs were hand-signed by Picasso. The items offered here are the lithographs most sought after by collectors, second only to the hand-signed group of 50. They are extraordinary in their creation, detail, and condition. They are regarded unconditionally as fine art and consistently appreciate in value.

"Between 1958 and 1961 Picasso made many linocuts, a process that he found hugely stimulating. Picasso invented the ‘reduction’ method, progressively cutting the same linoblock for each new colour, making it impossible to take any further prints from the original plates. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum plates were made at 42% of the original size, and it was from these that the prints on offer here were made." Most recently the Goldmark Gallery in the UK held an exhibition where the same 45 pieces offered here at Period Paper were available for viewing, and for purchase beginning at £350 each.

PLEASE NOTE: These are the original 1962 numbered limited edition linocuts and not the later reissues of the 1962 collection or those from 1988. Those offered here are far superior to any of the later editions.
