1951 Theodor Scheel Celebrity Caricatures


A humorous collection of offset lithographs from 1951. These lithographs are caricature illustrations of some of the leading politicians, writers, singers, and entertainers of the day by popular caricature artist, Theodor Scheel.

Born in 1903, Theodor 'Ted' Scheel attended the School of Fine Arts in St. Louis and lived in New York beginning in 1924. There he established his career with his linoleum block prints appearing in Musical America, Colliers, Ballyhoo, Saturday Review, Nation, and The New Masses. Scheel's work was also featured in the advertisements for Lucky Strike, Philco, and Proctor & Gamble. In addition his work was used in advertising for Proctor and Gamble, Lucky Strike and Philco.
