This is an original 1944 color print of civilians at the Hotel Commodore in New York City. The hotel was built as part of the Terminal City project in the early 1920s. The hotel is currently named the Grand Hyatt New York. The caption writes, "Though hotel operators don't brag about it, liquor is one of their most important sources of profit-- some say the most important. many hotels, in fact, were helped out of their depression slump when prohibition was repealed. Now, with war workers freely seeking out bars and millions of servicemen looking for entertainment and companionship, the profits are enormous..."
