This is an original 1861 black and white in-text wood engraving of a sketch by A. Waud of Fort Corcoran, an earthwork fortification constructed by the U.S. Fighting 69th Infantry, Irish Brigade 69th New York Volunteer Regiment. The Fort was a part of the defenses of Washington, D.C. during the American Civil War.
