This is an original 1867 black and white wood engraving of the participants in the arctic voyage attempting to cross the Hummocks, which had been drawn by G. G. White from a sketch by Dr. Hayes and engraved by J. A. Bogert. These scenes were documented during the S. S. United States schooner voyage of discovery toward the North Pole.

Please note that there is a blind emboss stamp on this image; it does not affect the integrity of the engraving. These items were obtained from a book from the State of Michigan as we acquired several collections from the historic archives/library. This 144+ year old Item is rated Very Fine. Light foxing and aging. Light wrinkling. No natural defects. No surface rub. Small tear - top margin. Light water staining. Please note that there is a blind emboss in the bottom right corner.
