This is an original 1878 black and white wood engraving of the northern gate to the stupa of Sanchi, India. The village is located in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, and is the location of various Buddhist monuments, including the 'Great Stupa,' which is the oldest stone structure of the country. The site features four different ornately carved gateways, each depicting a narrative, and a balustrade which surrounds the stupa.
