This opera house is also known as the Semperoper and the Saxon State Opera Dresden (Sachsische Staatsoper Dresden). The opera house was originally built by architect Gottifried Semper in 1841, who utilized such styles as Baroque, Corinthian and Early Renaissance, though as a whole the architecture may be described as simply Eclecticism, which comprises many different architectural designs. In 1869, the building was destroyed by a fire; it was reconstructed in 1878 by Gottifried's son Manfred Semper, who chose to redesign the building in a Neo-Renaissance style.
