This is an original 1906 black and white halftone print of a man returning to his cottage and family in the rural English countryside on Christmas Eve. The original sketch in this print was created by Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899) who was an English watercolor artist and illustrator. He was born in North Shields, England, to a Quaker family. Foster was apprenticed to a wood engraver named Ebenezer Landells and worked as an illustrator for books and periodicals. He is also known for his landscapes which he painted as he traveled throughout Europe.
