This is an original 1907 black and white halftone print of French Admiral François Joseph Paul de Grasse surrendering to British Admiral George Brydges Rodney at the Battle of the Saintes on April 12, 1782. This battle occurred during the American War of Independence and forced the French and Spanish to abandon their planned invasion of Jamaica in the Carribean Sea.
