This is an original 1908 halftone print with two facsimiles of an engraving of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I by Hans Burgkmair (1473Ð1531), a German painter and printmaker. Woodcuts by Jost de Negker (1518). One of the earliest German chiaroscuros. Reproduced from prints in the Graphic Arts Department of the National Museum, courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution.
