This is an original 1914 black and white halftone print of "Pirano (Dalmatia)." Pirano, present-day Piran, is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. Historically the town was a part of Dalmatia, a historical region along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, and a part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. This image captures the town in the early twentieth century. The Dalmatian dog received its name from Dalmatia, as did the Roman Catholic liturgical vestment worn by deacons and bishops. This image represents the traditional dress of Dalmatian men.
