This is an original 1914 black and white halftone print portrait of Mr. Sir Henry A. Lytton. Lytton was an English actor and singer who was the leading exponent of the comic patter-baritone roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operas in the early part of the twentieth century. His career in these Savoy operas with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company spanned 50 years, and he is the only person ever knighted for achievements as a Gilbert and Sullivan performer.

Period Paper is pleased to offer a collection of halftone portraits from 1914 of the people, actors, and actresses associated with Gilbert & Sullivan operas. The creative Victorian-era collaboration between librettist, W. S. Gilbert, and the composer, Arthur Sullivan, resulted in the production of fourteen comic operas produced at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, many of which are still produced today.
