This is an original 1920 World War I sepia Rotogravure of a bird's eye view of this historic Chateau de Sedan, which was never actually captured by any military. Instead, the armistice went into effect and French troops peacefully entered the town. This is the same site where Napoleon III surrendered in 1870 with 100,000 men.

This historic castle was first erected in 1424. It is the largest fortified medieval castle in Europe. Its defenses have been improved since its original construction.
