At the time, the hotel was the largest in Europe, boasting over 800 rooms. During World War I, the Royal Air Force established its first headquarters at this hotel. The Hotel Cecil was also the base for the Palestine Arab delegation that arrived in London in 1921, and spent nearly a year at the hotel.
