1930 Print Log Jam Lumber Wisconsin Trees Mill River - ORIGINAL HISTORIC WIS1

This is an original 1930 halftone print of a log jam in Wisconsin. When log jams occurred, there was usually one or two key logs that when removed, would break up the jam. It was incredibly dangerous for the rivermen, and when a jam would occur, they would need to run for their life.

The lumber industry controlled much of the northern part of the state during the middle of the 1800s. Heavy deforestation led the state to transfer to dairy production to make better use of their land.
