This is an original 1934 halftone print of eleven cows in a field. The caption writes, "Here are eleven cows. Twelve is the average twelve cows make the dairy farmer make nothing." The caption is referencing the amount of money that goes in to maintaining the herd. At the time, the average farmer was making less than $1,200 a year, and spent most of his money on cow feed.
