This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Amazilia Viridifrons family, more commonly known as the Green-fronted Hummingbird. With an average length of 100 mm., the forehead and central part of of this bird's crown are dark blue, the rest of the head being bronze-green, as are the upper portions of the back. The breast and belly are white, and the tail copper-bronze. This species has been found in the Mexican States of Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. The pictured flower belongs to the Stanhopea Wardii family, better known as Ward's Stanhopea, and is found in the regions of Orizaba in Veracruz, and as far south as Colombia. Like other Stanhopeas, it flowers in the summer for only a day or two.
