This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Amazilia Tzacatl family, more commonly known as the Rieffer Hummingbird. With an average length of 97-94 mms, the upper parts of this bird are metallic bronze-green, becoming a dark chestnut towards the tail region, which is tipped with purple. The throat and breast are emerald green, changing again to bronze on the flanks. The beak is long with a reddish tint which gets darker closer to the tip. This species is easily recognized by tiny white feathers on the feet. Living in the low-lying regions from Tamaulipas to Yucatan, this species is also present in Oaxaca and Chiapas, but has also been seen as far north as Texas, and as far south as Colombia and Venezuela. The orchid pictured is known as Spiranthes orchidioides, commonly known as the Leafless Beaked Orchid.
