This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the Secretary of the Navy, Denby, making an address at the Arlington Cemetery on April 6, 1922 to unveil a memorial to Robert Peary, the American explorer who claimed to reach the North Pole. The bottom image shows a cornerstone of the National Victory Memorial Building being laid. The caption writes, Cornerstone of National Victory Memorial Building being laid at the corner of Sixth and B Streets, N. W., Washington, D. C., Nov. 14, 1921. The president, Secretary Weeks, and General Pershing took part in the ceremonies, the greater part of which were held in the National Museum."
