This is an original 1807 black and white copper engraving of a Retort (fig. 1), funnels used for filtering soil samples (figs. B and B), an Argand's lamp (fig. E), parts of the apparatus used to measure the quantity of elastic fluid in calcareous soils (figs. F, G, H, and K), a graduated measure (fig. I), a stand for the Argand's lamp (fig. L), assorted bottles containing various reactant chemicals (figs. M, N, O, P, Q, R, and S).
