This is an original 1836 black and white in-text wood engraving of an Egyptian green Ibis amongst ancient ruins. The ibis was associated, in Egyptian mythology, with the afterlife. The ibis-headed go Thoth would be one of the gods who would judge the dead before allowing them to pass.
