This is an original 1849 black and white copper engraving of the Great Flood. People are seen climbing up to the top of a tall cliff face. The story of a large flood is not only present in biblical texts, but in stories from Assyrian, Greek, Native American, Indian, Sri Lankan, Inuit, Chinese and Russian civilizations. We are assuming that the artist for this work is J. Martin, and the engraver was J. B. Neagle of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Period Paper is pleased to present a rare collection of copper-plate engravings depicting the Jewish antiquities and the Jewish War from a translation of Flavius Josephus' genuine works. Josephus (37-100 AD), was a Jewish historian and provided valuable information on the background of early Christianity, and of Judaism in the 1st century. These copper-plate engravings, which accompanied the manuscript, offer remarkable depth and vivid detailing. Please take a closer look at these images, as they are absolutely stunning in their contrast, and would look exceptional framed.
