This is an original 1859 black and white wood engraving that depicts the Israeli city of Ramla as it existed in the years prior to the Arab-Israeli War of 1948 when there was a large Islamic Arab population. In the foreground, male visitors to a Mohammedan cemetery converse with one another while their female counterparts pray over the tombs and shake small handkerchiefs with prayers inscribed on them.
